Luis Tentindo is an interdisciplinary visual and performing artist, director and arts educator. He is passionate about creating bridges between individuals, groups, and communities with arts and community-based projects. Luis worked as a professional dancer in the companies of Tere O’Connor, Doug Elkins, David Gordon, Janis Brenner and many others. For 10 years Luis has designed, built, choreographed and directed puppet/object-theater pieces as well as dance/body-based work. He has travelled the world as a professional dancer and puppeteer. He has presented his works in NYC, Los Angeles, and several other cities and has taught master classes and workshops at NYU-Tisch, Middlebury College, UCONN, CSULB, and UCLA among others. Luis’ work has been presented St. Ann’s Werehouse, Theater for the New City, Dixon Place in NYC and at the XFEST! (SIUE) and the On Edge Festival (Santa Barbara). His work has been supported by the Jim Henson Foundation as well as through artistic residencies both nationally and internationally. He received his MFA in Dance from UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance in 2016 and was invited to create and teach a visual strategies course for UCLA’s Visual and Performing Arts Education (VAPAE) program. During his MFA studies Luis also taught dance improvisation, video production, and puppetry arts, as well as co-mentoring senior dance majors for their final performance projects. He is a mentor and teaching artist for at-risk teens with UCLA’s F.O.R.M. Academy and has worked with a broad spectrum of populations and skill levels around nationally. At UCLA he received the Graduate Opportunity Fellowship and other awards and he was recently honored with the Vision Award from the OPUS Archives at the Pacifica Graduate Institute for his work with dance and storytelling as a means of integrative / healing practice.
